I met the surgeon today!
First things first though....
I keep forgetting these calculations, and I don't want to rely on sites that make the calculation easy for me necessarily: I want to know the maths behind it, so in this post I want to keep the calculation at hand.
BMI = kg/m2 (weight in kilograms divided by height in square meters)
In my case: 132kg divided by (1.52m x 1.52m ) = 57
Starting BMI is therefore 57
Desired weight = (desired) BMI x m2 (BMI by height in square meters)
Desired BMI = 25
(desired) BMI x m2 = BMI by height in square meters = 25 x (1.52 x 1.52) = 57
Therefore my desired weight is 57kg
However....
I was saying that I met with the surgeon...
Of the various types of surgery available he recommends the mini-bypass as the most effective and at the same time less risky for me. So of course I'm going to follow his recommendations.
He explained to me that out of 75kg to lose, my expectation should be to lose 80% of that (i.e. 52kg give or take) - and this will happen around 12 to 18 months after surgery.
In his mind, it would be reasonable to expect to reach an ideal weight in the range of 75 to 85kg.
I can live with that!!
Just so that it gets well lodged into my head... as of today Sept. 28, 2021:
My expectations need to be adjusted to a "reasonable" weight: 75-85kg!
Next steps will be to see the psychologist, the endocrynologist, have an endoscope done, abdomen ultrasound and bloods.
Even going privately there is a waiting list of some sort, so I'm looking at roughly 6 months from now.
I cannot wait - wish me luck!
